Errant hand Salute

July 23rd, 2011

TV News views of Pres. Obama exiting the Presidential helicopter have often shown him practically on a run, the U.S. Marine at the bottom of the stairs smartly renders his salute. Unfortunately we then see the President’s response as a very quick flippant like finger slapping to his forehead with no glance toward the Marine. So unlike a snappy respectful return salute warranted and I would most certainly expect from the Commander – in – Chief.

In this high level public appearance situation seeing my President producing a really less than even casual attention to the honored exchanging of salutes depresses me. It’s not like this saluting is too frequent to get the proper respect it deserves.

Serious Concern for Apparent Apathy

July 22nd, 2011

To the gentlemen of the generation that experienced the depression of the thirties.

War II, your dedicated spouses, those ladies who took part as military members and those known affectionately as “Rosie the Riveter”

What I ask has happened to your apparent lack of concern for todays’ course of events your Country is being led on that’s results will be directly opposite of those you helped maintain through your Patriotic endeavors.

Unfortunately in the twilight of our lifetime this still has to be our concern because everyone of your surviving family members will suffer the consequences.

Gee whiz – I hope & pray. It’s not an expression or feeling of “no longer my concern”.

Missouri’s approach to the problem of illegal immigration

January 27th, 2011

Missouri has no illegal’s, go figure……
Missouri’s  approach to the problem of illegal immigration appears to be more advanced, sophisticated, strict and effective than  anything to date in Arizona .
Do the loonies in San Francisco , or the White House, appreciate what Missouri has done? When will our fearless President and his dynamic Attorney General going to take action to require Missouri start accepting illegal immigrants once again?
So, why doesn’t Missouri receive attention?
Answer:  There are no Mexican illegal’s in Missouri to demonstrate.
The "Show Me" state has once again shown us how it should be done. There needs to be more publicity and exposure regarding what Missouri has done.
Let’s pass this around.
In 2007, Missouri placed on the ballot a proposed constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri .  In November, 2008, nearly 90% voted in favor!  Thus, English became the official language for ALL governmental activity in Missouri .  No individual has the right to demand government services in a language OTHER than English.
In 2008, a measure was passed that required the Missouri Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officials to verify the immigration status of any person arrested, and inform federal authorities if the person is found to be in Missouri illegally.   Missouri law enforcement officers receive specific training with respect to enforcement of federal immigration laws.
In Missouri , illegal immigrants do NOT have access to taxpayers  benefits such as food stamps and health care through Missouri  HealthNET.
In 2009, a measure was passed that ensures Missouri ’s public institutions of higher education do NOT award financial aid to individuals who are illegally in the United States .
In Missouri, all post-secondary institutions of higher education to annually certify to the Missouri Dept. of Higher Education that they have NOT knowingly awarded financial aid to students who are unlawfully present in the United States.
So, while Arizona has made national news for its new law, it is important to remember, Missouri has been far more proactive in addressing this horrific problem.
Missouri has made it clear that illegal immigrants are NOT welcome in the state and they will certainly NOT receive public benefits  at the expense of Missouri taxpayers.
DON’T  JUST DELETE THIS AMERICA ….  KEEP IT GOING UNTIL WE GET ALL 50 STATES TO COMPLY!!!

The Price of Power

January 27th, 2011

A great dissertation on the realities of todays confrontations.  It’ s a must reading and understanding by all citizens concerned about our Nation going into the perilous future.

The looming battle over the defense budget could produce a useful national discussion about American foreign and defense policy. But we would need to begin by dispensing with the most commonly repeated fallacy: that cutting defense is essential to restoring the nation’s fiscal health. People can be forgiven for believing this myth, given how often they hear it. Typical is a recent Foreign Affairs article claiming that the United States faces “a watershed moment” and “must decide whether to increase its already massive debt in order to continue being the world’s sheriff or restrain its military missions and focus on economic recovery.”

This is nonsense. No serious budget analyst or economist believes that cutting the defense budget will aid economic recovery in the near term—federal spending on defense is just as much a job-producing stimulus as federal spending on infrastructure. Nor, more importantly, do they believe that cutting defense spending will have more than the most marginal effect on reducing the runaway deficits projected for the coming years. The simple fact is, as my Brookings colleague and former budget czar Alice Rivlin recently observed, the scary projections of future deficits are not “caused by rising defense spending,” and even if one assumes that defense spending continues to increase with the rate of inflation, this is “not what’s driving the future spending.” The engine of our growing debt is entitlements.
